Roads chaos as coast residents set out for long weekend

7.45pm Bruce Highway diesel spill

A suspected diesel spill stretching for kilometres has turned the northbound lanes of the Bruce Highway between Burpengary and the Landsborough turn-off into a traffic slip-and-slide.

At least two traffic crashes have occurred in the vicinity of Bells Creek and Landsborough but reports of collisions and vehicles off the road are coming in so thick and fast it is difficult for even police to keep track of the tally.

Cars and motorcycles were said to be "skating everywhere" in what were described as "treacherous" conditions.

Authorities are trying to have warning signs placed on the highway and the speed limit reduced for the time-being.

Another crash has been reported on the southbound lanes of the highway near the BP at Forest Glen.

4.40 PM Oil slick

Motorists on the Steve Irwin Way are advised to use caution between Landsborough and the Ewen Maddock Dam where an oil slick has been reported on the road.

One person has been taken to hospital after two vehicles collided on the Steve Irwin Way, Landsborough, about 3.50pm.

A car also ran off the road into bushes at the Bli Bli exit from the Sunshine Motorway about 4.18pm.

3.30 PM Caloundra pile-up

A five-car nose to tail crash on Caloundra Road, Caloundra, near the courthouse and police station, was reported shortly before 3.30pm.

Motorists should avoid the area.

11:30AM: Two crashes in 10 minutes on the Bruce Highway

TWO crashes around Forest Glen on the Bruce Highway have kept emergency services busy this morning.

Just after 10.40 am a vehicle towing a caravan ran off the road into the median strip on the highway between Forest Glen and Chevallum.

Both lanes were closed for a short time to retrieve the vehicle but have since reopened.

Only 10 minutes later, emergency crews were called out to a two vehicle crash on the northbound lanes of the highway, 500 metres south of the service station at Forest Glen.

Five patients, including two children, were assessed. One had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Police warn traffic is congested but both sides of the road are open and moving.
