Expect safe Logies red carpet fashion, says Sonia Kruger

ACCOLADES are won and lost on the Logies red carpet long before the awards themselves are handed out.

Introducing viewers to this year's winners and losers of the red carpet is fashionable TV personality Sonia Kruger.

Kruger teams up once again with Getaway presenter and Sydney radio host Jules Lund for Channel 9's half-hour red carpet coverage, which airs just before the 56th annual Australian TV industry awards tonight.

Last year Kruger received praise for her sequin navy gown and Game of Thrones-inspired jewellery, which included a jewel-encrusted talon ring spread across four fingers.

"That's the fun part," Kruger told APN.

"You get to wear these amazing pieces of jewellery you would never own and hope like hell you won't lose along the way."

But Kruger tips a tame red carpet this year.

"We all look to the Academy Awards for fashions and it was pretty safe this year," she said.

"We did see the cape and capelet (at the Oscars), so we might see a few capelets.

"In terms of colour, yellow is big. When Kate Middleton stepped off the plane in Sydney, people would be going 'what's going to stand out in the red carpet?' You've just got to be careful how you do it. You don't want to end up looking like a canary."

Australian couture designer Alex Perry has made two dresses for the Mornings co-host; she will wear one at the Logies  tonight while the other she will save for the upcoming new series of Big Brother.

Kruger is also up for an award as the host of Big Brother, which is nominated for Most Popular Reality Program.

"We've got more than 700,000 Facebook followers now, so from a social media perspective the fans of show are very active and they wanted to see Big Brother nominated," she said.

"It's a tough category. We're up against The Block and My Kitchen Rules, which are really big shows. Just to be nominated is nice. I know that sounds clichéd (laughs)."

Big Brother has an interesting history at the Logies.

The original series on Channel 10 spawned several Logie firsts.

Blair McDonough was the first reality TV contestant to be nominated for a Logie after he was cast as Stuart Parker on Neighbours.

Will you be watching the Logies tonight?

More recently, Chrissie Swan was the first reality TV contestant to be nominated for a Gold Logie for her role on Ten's former chat show The Circle.

Performing at tonight's awards are Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran, Jason Derulo, Tina Arena and MKTO.

The Logies Red Carpet Arrivals air tonight on Channel 9/WIN at 7.30pm, followed by the awards at 8pm.
