EXCLUSIVE: Inside the new Bundy Brewed Drinks Barrel
LOCALS and tourists alike are set to be wowed with the re-opening of the Bundaberg Brewed Drinks iconic Barrel attraction.
Refurbishments have seen the barrel closed since June, but the renovation process has been worth the wait.
The company has focused on creating a modernised, interactive visitor experience that engages the senses.
For just $12, visitors get to experience the new barrel tour and take home six iconic brews of their choice at the end.
CEO John McLean said their winning formula had been key to their success, so capitalising on that process was now the focus of the tour.
"We wanted to make sure the taste-testing was at the centre of the experience," Mr McLean said.
"A lot goes in to creating our brews, choosing the finest ingredients to craft-brewing each drink for up to seven days, with the result being a depth and complexity of flavour the company is renowned for.
"Over the last 50 years we have developed our range to up to 17 flavours including our diet range.
"We are known globally for our ginger beer, but we also have some amazing fruit brews including mango, which was introduced last summer."
As part of the family's commitment to the region, the reinvented barrel experience aims at providing visitors with a better understanding of the brewing process and what goes in to crafting the brews, which are now distributed to over 50 countries globally.
Since being built in 2005, the barrel has held a special place with the Fleming family.
Mr McLean has a clear focus on driving the local tourism agenda, saying they expected to see more than 80,000 visitors throughout the coming year.
"With a new look and new features for visitors to experience, the barrel is the ideal platform for us to showcase our local product to the world and to bring the world to the Bundaberg region," Mr McLean said.
The experience includes a "smell-ography" section which will allow visitors to guess the scents of key ingredients, including the locally-grown ginger.
The well-known tasting bar has been overhauled and at select times throughout the day, guests can enjoy free tastings of the full range of 13 flavours available in Australia, as well as the exclusive RC Cola.
As a special treat during the holidays, the barrel will also stock the limited release spiced ginger beer, which is a seasonal favourite over Christmas.
