'Exciting': Norm Horan takes charge of Wallaby's senior team
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Gladstone Wallaby RLFC have appointed Norm Horan as the new coach for the seniors team.
"I feel really good," Horan said. "I'm pretty excited for a good year ahead.
"I think it'll be challenging but exciting."
He hopes to energise the team for next season.
"My thing will be based around discipline, fitness and mateship," Horan said.
"I think that's probably the key to what we need to do, to do well in the competition."
Horan is no stranger to the game, and has been involved in coaching before.
"I've coached the Wallaby's for about the last 14 years," he said.
"(I've been) predominately in the juniors, I've done a little bit of senior stuff.
Seeing his junior players moved up to the senior team was one of the key factors in Horan's decision to take on the head coaching job.
"A lot of young blokes that I've coached over the years are now up in those grades.
"I like to develop those guys further and set the club up for a promising future."
Horan also reinforced his commitment to the organisation and its values.
"Wallaby's is a family club steeped in tradition," he said.
"I think we've got a good tradition here, and I just want Wallaby's to become the club that everyone wants to play for in town."
Horan is keen for new players to join the Wallaby's seniors and juniors team, and anyone who is interested should contact the club directly on Facebook.
