Epic Hockey Grand finals this weekend

HOCKEY: There will be skilful plays and goals galore at the Gladstone Hockey grand finals on tomorrow and all day Saturday.

Crocs president and A2 Women's coach Brenton Iszlaub is looking forward to the weekend action.

The A2 Women were minor premiers but had a hiccup in the first round of semi-finals to Sparks.

But they came back to defeat Meteors to make it through to the grand final.

"We have always had very close games with Sparks and they beat us 1-0 in the first semi-final but we bounced back to win the second semi- final 1-0 against Meteors," Iszlaub said.

"The progress of the team has been really good because over the last couple of seasons we finished last and second last and to now be minor premiers and grand finalists is a credit to the players.

"The A3 Women and the under-14's have made the grand final as well, which is good for the progress of the club."

The senior A1 Men and Women's encounters always prove to be cracking good games for spectators.

Plus the traditional rivalry makes for fiery and entertaining moments.

Meteors A1 Men and Women are coming into the end of the season with a wet sail after the Central Queensland Hockey League finals.

Meteors women came away winners defeating Rockhampton Southern Suburbs in penalty shootouts and the Men lost in a hard-fought game to Wanderers.

Standing in the way of a season finish for Meteors will be Sparks A1 Men and Women's teams.

Sparks men's team automatically progressed through in the local two-team competition.

Sparks women made it through after defeating Souths last weekend.

The fixture times for the grand finals are: tomorrow, 6.30pm A2 Women Sparks versus Crocs on Turf Field 2 and 7.50pm Sparks versus Meteors on Turf Field 2.

On Saturday at 8am will be the traditional and ever-popular March Past with all juniors and clubs involved.

At 8.30am will be the Gladstone Hockey Association Junior presentation and the Rookeys versus Parents with all clubs.

From 9.30am the under-12 Mixed Meteors Flames take on Souths on Turf Field 2 and at 10.40am under-14 Mixed Crocs versus Meteors on Turf Field 2.

The final junior game will be at 11.50am, under-16 Mixed between Meteors and Souths on Turf Field 2.

The senior fixtures start at 2pm, A3 Women Crocs versus Souths on Turf Field 2.

A1 Men at 3.30pm with Sparks versus Meteors and at 5pm A1 Women Meteors versus Sparks. Both games are on Turf Field 2.
