Video: Keen locals bed down community garden plan
JEWEL Ienna is the driving force behind creating a community garden in Tannum Sands.
She and a group of 20 other residents hope to create a space to grow herbs, vegetables, bush tucker foods and orchids at Garnett Park.
"A great passion of mine is to see communities interconnect.
"I don't think we use that park as much as we probably could," she said.
She said the community garden gave the opportunity for community days, playgroup meets and more.
The Bunnings Warehouse employee has created a community garden before in Shara, in northern New South Wales.
"The teens had this park, it was their hangout spot, but some would do burnouts and misbehave.
"Now you see those same teens behind shovels, making this garden their own," she said.
