Edwards’ gun offences not linked to Sharon's disappearance

THE jailing of the husband of missing Coutts Crossing school teacher Sharon Edwards on firearms offences has nothing to do with her disappearance, says police.

Coffs Clarence crime manager detective inspector Darren Jameson noted there had been some "hysteria" on social media drawing a link between the two, but this was wrong.

"There has never been any linkage whatsoever between the disappearance of Mrs Edwards and these offences," Det Insp Jameson said.

John Edwards, the estranged husband of Mrs Edwards was jailed for firearms offences in Grafton Local Court on Friday.

In April, less than a month after Mrs Edwards' disappearance, Edwards handed over a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun to Grafton police and told them he had hidden firearms around Grafton.

As reported by AAP, the former primary school teacher directed police to two other firearms, a sawn-off bolt action rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and 70 shotgun shells hidden in bushland and near waterways around Grafton.

He was charged with multiple unregistered firearm offences and ammunition possession, and sentenced to 12 months jail on Friday in Grafton District Court.

With a non-parole period of three months, he will be eligible for parole in December.

Mrs Edwards, 54, was last seen between 10-11pm on Saturday, March 14 at the Good Intent Hotel in South Grafton.

She was reported missing after she failed to show up to work the following Monday.

Her red Holden Cruze was found parked in the driveway of her Riverdale Ct home in Grafton, and the clothes she wore on the night she went missing were found in the laundry.

Officers have since revealed they believe her movements may have taken her towards Lawrence in the early hours of March 15. Anyone with information is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
