Gladstone Fish Market full bore ahead of Easter
IT'S peak time for fishmonger Simon Whittingham ahead of Good Friday tomorrow.
The Gladstone Fish Markets owner has already sold a whole lot of fish fillets this week - including 200kg of red throat emperor, 200kg of blue salmon and 300kg of Tasmanian Atlantic salmon.
"We're getting hammered. People are coming in early and getting their fillets," he said.
"It's the peak time for the product we sell. We have put away stock in the lead-up to Easter and ordered in an extra tonne of prawns."
Mr Whittingham said red throat emperor was the popular choice in Gladstone because it was a local breed.
"It's the front-runner because it's bloody delicious and we have the continuity of supply because we catch it out on the reef," he said.
"Snapper is also quite popular and we get that down at deep water from a local supplier."
Gladstone resident Kylie Nixon bought 1.5kg of red throat emperor that she was going to put in the freezer for tomorrow, ahead of her wedding on Saturday.
My family has always done it and I just follow the tradition," she said.
