Pub chef found dead was loving family man

POLICE no longer regard the death of a man found at the rear of the Drayton Tavern as suspicious.

Co-workers of James Walker, 58, yesterday remembered their colleague for his kind and loving nature.

His body was discovered at the bottom of a stairwell of the Brisbane St pub on Friday morning.

Drayton Hotel staff member Kanisha Rowe and her colleague Jeannie McMeekin said Mr Walker had worked as a chef and manager at the pub for about a month.

Miss Rowe had worked with Mr Walker at the Shamrock Hotel for nine months before that.

"He always tried to make everyone laugh and enjoy life as much as he did," Miss Rowe said.

"He adored his family and he adored his work.

"He was a perfectionist in the kitchen and a very proud Scotsman."

She said Mr Walker was looking forward to moving to Melbourne to be with his family.

"He truly was a pleasure to work with and he will be missed by many."

A post mortem examination was conducted on Mr Walker on Saturday.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
