Crocodile reported in the Boyne River makes virtual splash

IT MAY or may not have surfaced in the Boyne River, but this croc has well and truly made a splash on Facebook.

The picture surfaced yesterday, posted in the Gladstone Classifieds group on Wednesday, purportedly a first-hand sighting of a huge man-eater.

But a full investigation by The Observer saw the original poster admit the photo was from a mate, who said it was from his mum, who attributed it to another source - the origin remains unclear.

Earlier this year, prominent Gladstone fisherman Johnny Mitchell reported seeing his first croc, estimated to be 2.7m, in The Narrows, just north of Ramsay's Crossing.

A slew of croc sightings followed, linked to the January floods.
