Glen Eden fire has jumped Kirkwood Rd
UPDATE 5PM: Eleven Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are at the scene of the vegetation fire burning at Glen Eden, near the Billabong Estate to the south-west.
The fire is now contained and under control, posing no threat to properties.
Crews are working to strengthen containment lines by conducting back burning operations near Kirkwood Rd and Glen Eden Drive, and will remain on scene into the evening.
A large smoke haze is still affecting a number of Glen Eden suburbs, and smoke and flames will continue to be visible into the evening.
UPDATE 2.20PM: Students from St Stephen's Lutheran College are being evacuated via buses to Gladstone PCYC.
All classrooms have been evacuated.
Firefighters have started backburning at the school fence as the fire approaches.
The fire also has jumped Kirkwood Rd, with a small fire burning on the other side of the road.
St Stephen's has largely escaped damage, with just some scorching on a fence.
1.30PM: The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service is conducting a backburn to tackle a fire behind houses on Daly Rd in Glen Eden.
There are multiple crews on site dealing with the vegetation fire, which broke out late Tuesday morning.
They are trying to backburn in front of the fire to contain it.
A preschool on the corner of Kirkwood and Glenlyon Rds has been evacuated.
St Stephen's Lutheran College students are in the school hall waiting for instructions from fire officers and police.
Parents have been asked to pick up their children early if possible.
A large amount of smoke is expected to blow into the school during backburning operations.
Two rural crews are going around Victoria Avenue to check for possible effects on houses.
There is no immediate threat to properties.
Kirkwood Rd is closed between Glenlyon Rd and Benaraby Rd.
The fire is burning in the vicinity of Beecher and Toolooa Bends, Haddock Drive and Kirkwood Rd.
