Court hears of delays in murder case
A FORMER Ipswich man charged with murdering a South Korean student has had his court case adjourned until July as his lawyers attempt to get further instructions from him.
Alex Reuben McEwan, 22, is accused of murdering Eunji Ban, 22, during the early hours of November 24, 2013 in Brisbane's Wickham Park.
Mr McEwan's case was briefly mentioned at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
In 2014, the Queensland Mental Health Court found Mr McEwan was temporarily unfit, the court heard.
Mr McEwan's lawyer said her client was then found fit by a tribunal last year.
This decision was then appealed at the Queensland Mental Health Court but it was rejected.
Mr McEwan's lawyer said they had started taking instructions from their client again and had scheduled a conference with him on Tuesday.
The lawyer said although he was considered fit, Mr McEwan was unwell and that it was taking time to get instructions from him.
The case was adjourned until July 11.
He is currently in custody and did not apply for bail. - ARM NEWSDESK
