Mikayla J: Can't Tame Me: Benaraby woman Mikayla Birthisel has released her debut EP. This is her new single, Can't tame me.

MIKAYLA Birthisel's passion for music has taken her from Benaraby to LA and Nashville.

And she's set for more big things this year, after she released her debut single on November1.

It was her upbringing in Benaraby that has helped shape her as a country music artist to watch.

Listening to Troy Cassar-Daley, Kasey Chambers and Lee Kernaghan, she she was spoon-fed a staple diet of Australian Country music.

Mikayla, known by her artist name Mikayla J is still riding the excitement of her debut release.

"The small population and tight knit communities allowed me to hone my craft and improve and while my music has become more pop and modernised than your typical Australian country, the stories that inspired me back home are still the underlying part of my songs," she said.

It wasn't long before Mikayla J found herself delving further into the belly of the beast, educating herself with the American folk and Country greats.

"Dream Alone" taken from her forthcoming EP was written serendipitously.

"I wrote "Never Dream Alone" before I knew I was headed to Nashville! I've wanted to be a singer/songwriter my whole life, and this song "is a classic", the idea behind the song is that, there is so many people going to Nashville to follow their "dream" of being successful and famous, but when it comes down to it these celebrities are just like you and me. We will never dream alone, while so many around us share the same dreams and passions."

With a nod to the past influenced by heritage Americana acts yet reminiscent of contemporaries Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood, this EP see's Mikayla J step out and away from her previously smooth, harmonic folk-ballads with a much more rockier, hard hitting and lyrically driven edgy debut.
