Council crackdown on illegal dumping and littering

GLADSTONE Regional Council is urging residents to do the right thing when disposing of their rubbish and waste or face fines of up to $6000.

The latest call follows several incidents where people have been fined for illegal dumping and littering in the region.

Last month a man was fined $1821 for dumping 250 litres of household waste at a roadside reserve on Tablelands Rd at Miriam Vale.

Gladstone Regional Council's Environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Col Chapman said the dumped rubbish included decomposing food and personal items.

The council were able to identify the offender through mail found amongst the rubbish.

"As it turns out, it would have been a lot less expensive for the man to dispose of the rubbish in the correct manner using our waste disposal services or locations," Cr Chapman said.

In another instance, a woman was fined $240 for illegal littering after being caught throwing food wrappers from a car while driving along Fingerboard Rd near Agnes Water.

Council would like to take this opportunity to remind residents that there are dedicated waste disposal services available throughout the Gladstone region including Waste Transfer Stations and Landfill facilities.
