Young players glad junior league is back

JUNIOR rugby league is back on field, and Cooper Young couldn't be happier.

The eight-year-old has been waiting all summer for competition to return, and was on fire to start his Wallabys team campaign against Tannum Sands Seagulls.

Although he didn't pick up a try, Cooper was happy with his effort.

"I played well, but didn't get any today," he said.

"I like scoring tries. I got 38 tries last year."

Cooper also got two on the board in a trial match last week.

But it was the taste of real competition which he and his mates were looking forward to most.

Hitting the field Saturday morning, Cooper was trying to be like his favourite Brisbane Broncos star.

"Ben Hunt is my favourite player," he said.

Now the season has returned, Cooper's schedule is jam packed with sport.

He is on the field playing Saturday mornings and training Thursday afternoons, and also has martial arts training on Monday and Wednesday.

His favourite is the rugby league, loving the Wallabys and getting to play with and against mates from other clubs.

"I play for Wallabys because my Dad played for Wallabys," he said.
