Swimmer thrilled with support from Gladstone community
THE Ireland family has been overwhelmed by the generosity from the Gladstone business community.
It's what will get Jack Ireland to Ecuador to swim in INAS Global Games.
Jack qualified for the INAS Games at the Australian Swimming Championships in Sydney last April, and since then the family has been trying to raise money to get him to Ecuador.
Saturday will be the culmination of the Gladstone business community's support for Jack, along with the general public, at the En Route To Ecuador fundraising night at the Yaralla Sports Club.
Jack's mother Sharon said the local businesses had been awesome.
"We're completely overwhelmed by the generosity of Gladdy local businesses," she said.
"(They) have supported us so eagerly."
Mrs Ireland said it was great that people had supported her son, who she was so proud of.
"I remember Tom, Jack's coach saying that Jack would represent Australia in swimming," she said.
"I just didn't think his international call up would be so soon.
"We are very lucky parents and we wouldn't change him for the world."
On the night the generosity of the local businesses will be on show and auctioned off.
The live auctions will include a Working Harbour Tugboat Tour, two Ed Sheeran Tickets, accommodation package at the Hilton and a $500 travel voucher.
Also a silent auction and Tombola raffle with more than 80 prizes.
Tickets for Saturday night can be bought through Suzie on 0428 750 049 or email email@example.com.
