Come and see the real thing, Russell Morris, at Agnes
WITH a music career that has spanned more than 40 years, Russell Morris has worked with the best in the business to create some of the greatest hits from an Australian musician.
The Agnes Blues Roots and Rock headliner will perform a mix of his own classics, and songs from his most recent trilogy of albums celebrating Australia's history, this weekend.
His early work on what turned out to be his biggest hit, The Real Thing, is back in the spotlight with features on the Molly telemovie and a documentary, Molly: The Real Thing.
Morris said Meldrum had a great influence on the hit song.
"He sure was volatile in those days," Morris said.
"We had a lot of fights but he was a great visionary.
"He really knew what he wanted and he really went after it.
"He drove us all nuts but without him (The Real Thing) wouldn't have been what it was.
"I give him total credit. It was absolutely sensational what he did for that song."
His most recent release, Red Dirt Red Heart, showcases the history of indigenous people in Australia.
"For my third and final album, I thought I've got a short history of Australia already from the first two but I can't do this without showing the people who have been here for thousands of years," he said.
It will be Morris's first time at Agnes Water and he says he's looking forward to being back in the Queensland heat.
He performs on Saturday night.
