Have a coffee with... Gladstone councillor Maxine Brushe
We have a coffee and a chat with some of Gladstone's favourite faces.
Name: Maxine Brushe
Years lived in region: Tannum Sands for 28 years
On a sunny Saturday afternoon you can find me at home catching up with house chores, grocery shopping or visiting family or friends.
I'm usually drinking sparkling water at home.
My guiltiest pleasure is a quiet space, comfy chair, a cup of tea and a good book.
When I was young, my dream was to learn to play piano. I will achieve this before my time is over, even if it kills me - or deafens the hearing of others!
I can't remember the last time I had a relaxing weekend at home, with no agendas to read, minutes to write up, house to clean or calls to make.
My local shopping centre is Tannum Central and the best way to navigate through it is with care, to ensure you get the right car space, covered and close to the shop entrance.
Michael Buble's The Best is Yet to Come would be included on the soundtrack to my life.
I would consider Ita Buttrose to be my hero. What a lady! Strong, resilient, powerful and still so feminine.
Judy Dench would play me in the movie about my life because I am sure she would be true to character and portray the good, the bad and the ugly parts equally well, but hopefully also with some compassion and humour.
My first order of business as newly-elected PM would be to put humanity back into government. Treat people, whoever they may be, with respect and dignity, play the ball not the person, seek solutions instead of problems, and promote tolerance of difference in all its forms.
Most of all though, govern instead of focusing on "beating the opposition".
One of the region's best features is Millennium Esplanade, Tannum Sands for its relaxed family-friendly appeal.
But also the serenity of Tondoon Gardens and the majestic beauty of Mt Larcom peak, as it overlooks so much of the Gladstone area.
I'm passionate about trying to deliver on a quality retirement village for our region, because our older residents should be able to retire in style locally, among family and friends.
Also BAM (Beach Arts Music) at Tannum Beach every first Saturday of the month is a great love. It is a great way for the community to recreate together on a regular basis in a naturally beautiful space.
Bindaree Lodge has been a passion for the last 20 years, and as government policy changes, the sustainability of this wonderful facility continues to be a major challenge.
Looking for out of the box solutions is currently a focus to ensure Bindaree's longevity in this community.
My date to the Academy Awards would be George Clooney, of course!
