Coast family $3m richer after mind-blowing lotto win

A SUNSHINE Coast family has taken a life-changing win, taking out more than $3 million in the weekend's Gold Lotto draw.

The Palmwoods family realised they had taken the win on Sunday morning, after checking the numbers, and said they had barely slept since.

The family held one of the seven division one winning entries nationally in Saturday's Gold Lotto draw 3785 on October 28, 2017, with each winning entry taking a prize of $3 million.

The private syndicate's System 9 entry won a total of 144 times in the draw, bolstering their total prize to $3,132,289.75.

In addition to the multi-million dollar division one prize, the entry also won division two 12 times, division three six times, division four 45 times, division five 30 times and division six 60 times.

A day after they discovered they had won the prize, the family took the call from Golden Casket officials confirming the win.

"I'm so caffeinated!" a family member told the official.

"We've spent the money four different ways in our minds (since yesterday morning).

"We're so excited!"

The private family syndicate had been running for many years using the same marked numbers.

"One family member has won two large divisional prizes in the past, but nothing quite like this," the family member said.

"She's lucky - we rub against her all the time, and it's worked.

"I have to tell you, she also said she's going to win another two times, so we're ready to do it again!"

Members of the family syndicate said they would use their windfall to buy new homes and pay for home renovations.

The family, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased their winning marked System 9 entry from Palmwoods Casket & News in Palmwoods.

Palmwoods Casket & News owner Hanke Oke said the outlet was celebrating selling its second division one winning entry.

"It's the talk of the town already; they don't miss much around here," she said with a laugh.

"It's such a big one. Congratulations to the winner.

"My husband sold both our division one winning tickets so they call him the lucky man now.

"I'm hoping I sell the next one next time. It's my turn."

Golden Casket is still searching for the two other mystery ticket-holders on the Sunshine Coast who are yet to claim their millions.

A $2 million winning ticket was bought from Aussie News, on Frizzo Rd at Palmview, in the lead-up to the October 14 Saturday Gold Lotto draw.

The hunt is still on for a $1.024 million winning ticket holder who bought their entry at Cotton Tree News in Maroochydore in the lead-up to the December 19 Monday Gold Lotto draw last year.
