CLINTON Premier will be hoping to retain their ladder-leading position this weekend as they go head-to-head with Southside United at Jardine Park.

Round 17 of the Central Queensland Premier League soccer competition will get under way around the region this weekend as teams compete for finals positions.

With just two rounds remaining before the finals, the battle will be on between Emerald Eagles and Capricorn Coast, CQFC Energy and Bluebirds, Berserker and Nerimbera, Southside United and Clinton and Frenchville and Central.

The game of the round will see top-of-the-table contenders Frenchville and Central, who sit just 10 points apart on the CQ ladder, face off.

While Frenchville didn't play last round due to cancellation of their clash with Emerald, Central will come out strong and be looking to redeem themselves after going down to Clinton 8-2 last round.

The last time these two met, in round eight, Frenchville came out on top 4-1, so it will be interesting to see who claims the win this time around.
