Chanel confident of success in Schoolboy Cup

RUGBY LEAGUE: Chanel College coach Chris Andersen said his team is up for the challenge in the GIO Schoolboy Cup and Trophy in Townsville tomorrow and Friday.

The reigning Confraternity Cup winners will be chock-full of confidence, but Andersen understands the next phase will be a step up in standard.

Tomorrow's match will be the semi-final and Friday will be the final

"We play a representative Mt Isa team Good Shepherd Catholic College and then if we win that we play the winner out of Blackheath/Thornburgh College and Kirwan State High School from North Queensland which will be on Friday," he said.

"We're confident as a team and we can play good football, but we also understand that this is another level as well."

Chanel College thrashed Xavier College in Charters Towers 36-0 in the Confraternity Cup grand final.

Andersen will bring a squad of 20 and the coach is confident his team will rise to the challenge.

"We're excited by the opportunity and if we win both these games, we get the opportunity to go down and play in Brisbane which will be a televised game on FOX Sports," he said.

"It's certainly plenty of incentive for a small school to try and get on the big stage."

While players such as Lyncoln Rebel and Ronan McGuire will be key players for Chanel, Andersen said it will take a full team effort to get success in Townsville.

"We are going to need the full 17 to get through this next division and it's not going to be on anyone's shoulders," he said.

"We need a good team performance across the board."
