Interim caterer appointed while tender process occurs

WITH five days until opening, Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre on Thursday locked in an interim caterer - but the short-term solution to its kitchen chaos meant the planned cafe won't open until next year.

Gladstone Regional Council revealed Rydges Gladstone would be temporarily managing the kitchen for the $23 million redevelopment.

The tender process to find a permanent caterer will begin in the next two weeks.

It follows the collapse of talks with preferred contractor Reef City Catering last Friday.

Cr Sellers hopes to have the new caterer in place for the official opening on Australia Day. And the Stage Door Bistro won't open before then.

"We have tried all along to get the best food and best service, and that's still the case," Cr Sellers said.
