Central Crows call for Gladstone guns
RUGBY LEAGUE: Several Gladstone boys and girls have made the grade in junior Central Crows teams on the back of impressive performances for Central Capras teams at the Queensland Rugby League Central Junior Carnival in Chinchilla.
Jake Gehrmann has made the under-16 boys' Crows side while Delaney Claridge made the U14 girls side and Savannah Power joins her.
The Central Crows will take part in a training camp in Yeppoon on Monday, July 2 before the State Junior Championships in Mackay from July 5-8.
U14 boys and girls Capras assistant coach and mentor of the Tannum Seagulls' A-grade side Craig Karakyriacos said Seagulls' junior Jake will play as a utility.
The man they call Kirk said there was no shortage of talent displayed in Chinchilla.
"It was the standard of football that has come around, especially from the girls,” he said.
"The girls haven't been around for a long time and they are really starting to develop especially around here.
"I know Rod Dahl has done a lot with the girls as well and Chelsea (Baker) and others have really put their hand up and helped out.”
He said Delaney showed plenty as a front rower and ran some powerful straight lines.
"Her kicking for goal was impressive as well and she was probably one of my stand-out players,” Karakyriacos said.
Bailey Smith is in the U14 boys Central Crows side after he led the junior Capras to top in the U14 division.
Some Gladstone players have made the U13 Boys Development Squad, which will train later this year. They are Hoani Harris, Trevor King and Tyler Peckham-Harris.
