CareFlight to the rescue at Warwick and Fraser Island
THE versatility of Sunshine Coast's RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter crew was on show on Monday, with the team attending to two very specialised medical tasks in the space of eight hours.
At 6.10am Monday, the Maroochydore-based crew was tasked to fly to Warwick, on the Southern Downs, to help treat and transport a newborn infant to Brisbane.
Before heading west, the crew collected a neo-natal team from the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital, before collecting the hours-old baby girl at Warwick Hospital.
The tiny patient was transported back to the RBH in a stable condition.
Upon completion of their mission, the crew were re-tasked to Coongul Creek, on Fraser Island's western coast, where a woman in her 60s had succumbed to a medical condition.
The helicopter arrived on-scene mid-afternoon.
The patient was assessed by the CareFlight medical team, before being taken to Nambour General Hospital for observation.
She travelled in a stable condition.
