Car show planning to celebrate a year of fundraising

ROXY and Jason Ramm set the wheels in motion on the Gladstone Old School Car Show in early October 2014.

A year later the organisation has forked out at least $10,000 to keep the show running to raise money for the community.

The non-for-profit organisation encourages the region's car enthusiasts to gather at the Gladstone Square (The Valley) every last Saturday of the month to showcase their own vintage and special cars, or to view the spectacular array and buy raffle tickets, with all proceeds going towards a local organisation.

Co-ordinator of the organisation Roxy Ramm said to last a year in a smaller city was a big achievement for the organisation.

"I used to hold huge car shows in Brisbane, but I moved here to live with my now-husband," she said.

"We weren't expecting it to become as big as it did, and to be able to raise so much money for the community is a wonderful thing.

"We are really proud of what we have done for the community, and the support we have received has been fantastic."

Mr Ramm said starting a car show in Gladstone was his wife's idea and they would never turn back.

"I'm so glad we did it and continue to do it. It was a bit daunting at first - I was unsure of how successful it would be," he said.

"But it's gotten a great response from the community. We wanted Gladstone to share our love for cars - but Gladstone has shown us their love for cars.

"It's been a great experience. In a few years time I'm hoping we can have shows with at least 300 cars minimum. That would be awesome."

To celebrate the milestone, a large show day welcome to all will be held at the Gladstone Showgrounds next month.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in costumes with a 1950-60s theme.

More than 60 stalls will be open to the public, including brand new stalls never seen in Gladstone before.

A variety of food and drink, clothing, car parts, and show bag stalls will also be at the event.

The event will be a huge score with the kids as there will be many rides, including a trackless train and sideshow alley.

Tickets are $5 each and the show will run from 9 am to 5 pm on October 10.
