Call for volunteers to help the region's clean up effort
IT'S time to clean up the region after the devating floods.
Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers has called on the community to volunteer on Saturday from 9am to help clean up outlying townships and calls on volunteers to help take part.
She said these clean ups would not be possible without the help of the region's dedicated volunteers.
"We are currently calling on volunteers for several locations around the region including the Boyne Valley, Lowmead, Baffle Creek, Benaraby and the Boyne/Tannum area," Cr Sellers said.
"Volunteers are urged to take care when driving and that a four wheel drive will be necessary to access some of these areas.
"All volunteers are required to meet no later than 9am at each collection point so they can be redirected to different parts of the area.
"More volunteer clean up efforts will be organised for the Rosedale and Pikes Crossing areas when flood waters recede."
Volunteers should wear closed in shoes and sunscreen and bring with them a hat, insect repellent, lots of water and their own lunch.
If possible, people are asked to bring any rags, shovels, buckets, brooms, wheelbarrows or rakes they may have to help with the clean up efforts.
Anyone interested in volunteering needs to register on the Volunteers Queensland website http://www.emergencyvolunteering.com.au/home/ where they can register their skills and availability.
