Queensland's worst intersection identified
A HORROR Caboolture intersection has been named the worst in the state for deadly crashes in the last three years.
The intersection of Beerburrum Rd, Old Gympie Rd and Pumicestone Rd recorded nine serious crashes between July 2015 and June 2018, and 20 serious casualties.

"Serious casualties" were defined as when a person died within 30 days, or a person was transported to hospital from injuries sustained in a road traffic crash.
Data obtained by The Courier-Mail from the Department of Transport and Main Roads revealed other intersections recording frequent severe crashes included Greenbank Rd, and Mt Lindesay Hwy at North Maclean which had 14 serious casualties in three years.
Projects are under way to fix Queensland's top two crash-prone intersections, with Caboolture's intersection set to be operational by mid this year, and North Maclean work by late this year.
The intersection of Clifford St and the Gold Coast Highway at Remembrance Drive recorded more fatalities and hospitalisations than North Maclean, with 16 in total, but had less serious crashes with seven recorded in three years.
Interestingly, in the top 20 list of 1km road sections which had the greatest amount of serious crashes, the Pacific Highway was numbered one to six.
The highest number of serious casualties occurred at Eagleby (20), followed by Nerang (18) and Slacks Creek (17), the highway at Brisbane City recorded 14 serious crashes of which were 15 serious casualties.
Queensland's peak motoring body was not surprised with the list of intersections.
RACQ Head of Public Policy Dr Rebecca Michael said "a number of these intersections have come up on ours lists of deadliest intersections in previous years".
"We need continued investment by all levels of government, if we're to get safer roads and safer outcomes for Queensland drivers," she said. "It's good to see money has been committed to upgrading a number of these intersections, however what's disappointing is there's still a number of deadly intersections which have been on the list for years sitting unfunded."
RACQ said there is no evidence of upgrades announced for the Clifford St and Gold Coast Highway intersection, or for the deadly intersections listed in Mackay, Fortitude Valley and Varsity Lakes.
"We need to see governments making safety the top priority when investing in the road work," Dr Michael said. "Our goal is to get 95 per cent of travel on the national network and 90 per cent of travel on the state network, to an Australian Road Assessment Program safety rating of at least 3 stars or better by 2022."
