Stunning burlesque event has touch of Robin and Christina

A NEW, exciting event is making a mark in the Gladstone region, with a touch of influence from Robin Williams and Christina Aguilera.

The Reef Hotel's Birdcage Burlesque will be the first theatre restaurant the town has seen.

The riveting performance, with a three-course meal included, will be performed at the Reef from Friday, May 24 to Sunday, May 26.

Gladstone Reef events manager Graeme Beard said the show came from NSW.

"It's a mix of the movie Birdcage, which Robin Williams was in, and also Burlesque, with Christina Aguilera," he said.

Mr Beard was excited by the fact nothing like this had been tried in Gladstone.

"We're turning the restaurant into a theatre restaurant for three days - everyone has just gone mad," he said.

The events manager agreed the event was something that has attracted a great deal of people.

The show is sold out for the Saturday night, but tickets are still available for the Friday and Sunday performances.

Mr Beard said the show was bringing circus performers and also two Australian champion pole dancers.

This, along with the temptation of a three-course meal, could be why the event has targeted not just women but many men also.

"If we sell out we're looking at bringing them back every few months.''
