BREAKING: Power player wins QBL MVP

BASKETBALL: Gladstone Port City Power point guard Tabatha Richardson-Smith capped off a brilliant season to win the QBL Most Valuable Player award.

The QBL best and fairest winner has had a stellar season where she dominated throughout the season to average 31.83 points per game across 18 games.

Her big hauls included 40 and 44 points in consecutive away games against Townsville Flames and Cairns Dolphins.

In further great news for the Power, Cassie Rochel was named as the QBL women's leading field shooter.

The tall and agile American shot at a superb average of 59.72 per cent and even better from the free-throw strip at 67.92 per cent.

Rochel also finished the season with a scoring average of 15.21 ppg.

While it has been a lean season for the Power men, outgoing Ray Willis has had his best season.

He took out the QBL as the leading point scorer.

Willis average 29.53 ppg across 17 matches with big bags of 39 and 38 points against Mackay Meteors and Cairns Marlins respectively.

Meteors' Shaun Bruce won the men's MVP for the league while Mackay Meteors' playing coach Cameron Tregardh won the Men's Coach of the Year.

Brisbane Spartans coach Rebecca Stephens won the Women's Coach of the Year.
