Brave efforts just fall short
BILOELA'S rugby union squads came very close to climbing to the top of the mountain at a huge day of grand final football in Rockhampton.
At Rugby Park Rockhampton last weekend, the Reserve Grade Biloela Cockatoos narrowly went down to the Cap Coast Crocs in their grand final.
This was backed-up by the Biloela Girls 7s squad going down right at the end to the Brothers Girls 7s team.
Sevens team member Annika Middleton stayed to cheer on her club's Men's side who put on a brave performance.
"It was so unlucky,” Middleton said.
"They were up 3-0 most of the day with a penalty kick.
"With 30 seconds left Cap Coast scored a try and it was just unlucky.
"They played such a great game and had barely any time with the ball and held their own.”
Earlier throughout the day, Middleton and her 7s squad managed to roll through their round-robin tournament meeting any challenge head-on.
"We played against Cap Coast where we won, Colts who we drew against and Brothers where we won to make it through to the grand final of the day,” Middleton said.
"We lost 12-7 to Brothers on the buzzer in the grand final. It was such a good game.”
Middleton is thrilled with how far the club has come this season.
"Since the start of the season our team has come such a long way,” Middleton said.
"It's amazing to see how much 7s has progressed in our area.
I think with those losses that day comes a lot of determination for next year.”
