Boys power their way to bronze at championship

BASKETBALL: The Gladstone Port City Power under-12 boy's team (pictured) have returned home bronze medals from the Queensland State Championships in Logan.

After the Power missed the chance to qualify for play-off for a gold medal on Monday, the team bounced back to claim third-best bronze yesterday in a 64-57 win against Northside Wizards 2.

Jack Lymbery capped off a superb carnival with 31 points to lead all scorers in the four-day event.

Evander Ghee stepped up with 16 points and Dylan List chipped in with 12.

"We started flat and were actually down by 10 points in the second quarter," Power coach Jimmy Lamkin said.

"It was a defensive effort that got them going where we started to box out and play fast-paced basketball.

"Our centre Uili (Willie Lemalu) stopped their taller player."

Lamkin said the team improved from a win-less first Central District Carnival a few months ago.

"Over the course of all of the three CDC, we started to gel more and more as a team," he said.

"Another stand-out was Dylan (List) who made shots from outside of the key and that allowed Jack (Lymbery) to drive to the basket."

Bundaberg Bulls took out the gold medal match with a 57-37 win against North Gold Coast Seahawks 2.
