Black spots dog mobile use

MOBILE phone users are in uproar over poor coverage and black spot areas that blanket parts of Gladstone.

In the past few weeks Telstra customers have encountered poor mobile phone or wireless internet connections at their homes and around town.

Clinton, Kin Kora and Gladstone South were listed as problem prone areas, with complaints about poor reception also made in Barney Point, Gladstone City and Curtis Island.

South Gladstone resident Paul Watson said he couldn't connect the internet to his iPad.

"I just want to know why an industrial and bustling town like Gladstone doesn't have reliable phone reception," Mr Watson said.

A Telstra spokesman said some mobile phone services could have been affected by an "unauthorised transmitting source", which was interfering with the Telstra Next G Network last week.

The issue has since been resolved.

"Telstra has continually upgraded," a spokesman said.

New Telstra base stations are planned for Glen Eden, Kirkwood, Beecher and Curtis Island.
