BITS win scrappy affair against Rocky Panthers

BITS Saints consolidated its place in the top four with a fighting 27-point win against a determined Rockhampton Panthers at BITS Oval.

Both teams fielded young sides and it was a battle of defences and perhaps the home side could have been ahead by at least a couple of goals at half time.

Simon Clarke booted four goals for BITS in the 9.14 (68) to 6.5 (41) win

Ben Dempsey was getting plenty of touches for the Saints in midfield and said the side left its best footy until the final quarter.

"We started to gel in the last quarter and we have a lot of young players and are an inexperienced side with five under 17 players," Dempsey said.

The raking left-footer was sent off during the third quarter and said it was just a case of letting his emotions get the better of him.

BITS were 15 points ahead at three quarter time and Dempsey said defender Brendan Clarke was superb.

"He's got a big body and can even go into the midfield when others get tired and can crash a few packs as well," Dempsey said.

He added that he's looking forward to how BITS Saints will measure up against Glenmore - 11-point losers against Gladstone Mudcrabs.

"Glenmore, they are a bit like us, where they are rebuilding and I think our boys can take it up to them," Dempsey added.
