A LACK of stylish quality hair accessories in Gladstone has inspired one Biloela mum to use her own creative flair.

Emma Powter designs and hand-makes hair accessories for females of all ages and is the artistic mind behind Emmz Creations.

The business started two years ago when fellow Gladstone mothers admired her two daughters' hair accessories.

"Having two young daughters with a lot of hair, I could never find anything good quality that would match their outfits and keep their hair out of their face," she said.

Starting small, Emmz Creations became a well known business among mothers groups and child care centres after attending markets and creating a Facebook page.

"You have to work hard on a Facebook page; I'm continually trying to put it out there."

As the business grows so too does the demographic.

"Mums started getting jealous of what their daughters had received so I started making women's hair pieces too."

She also enjoyed seeing how broad the target spectrum of her creations could reach.

"I think if you have a good quality product people will tell their friends."

"You have to work fairly hard for people to trust your product and to get them to buy it, so once they do, it feels really good," she said.

And although it is perceived as a job and business, she said it's more an enjoyable hobby.

"I really like the idea about being able to make different pieces every day, I very rarely make an identical piece."

Most of the hair pieces are elegant and of a vintage style, and they can be ordered for weddings, baby photos and race meetings.

"I think people are really into the vintage-styled looks."
