Bigwigs visit city

RIO Tinto's top powerbrokers visited the company's Gladstone refineries on Monday to inspect the latest developments.

Rio Tinto chairman Jan Du Plessis, chief executive Tom Albanese and the rest of the board visited Rio Tinto Alcan Yarwun and QAL.

A Rio Tinto spokesperson said the visit gave board members the opportunity to hear from employees about their views on keeping the facilities safe, efficient and productive assets.

The board is in Queensland this week for Rio Tinto's annual general meeting in Brisbane today.

Rio Tinto owns 100% of the Yarwun refinery and 80% of QAL.

The Yarwun 2 refinery expansion is more than 99% complete.
