CQ Capras games confirmed for Gladstone and Biloela in 2013

RUGBY league fans get ready because the Intrust Super Cup is heading our way.

Central Queensland Capras operations manager Walson Carlos confirmed that two 2013 season games would be played in Gladstone and one in Biloela - three in total.

"Obviously Gladstone has such a strong history with rugby league and such a strong following so we are excited about taking two games there," Carlos said.

Last year Capras started the push to focus on regional areas throughout Central Queensland, playing games in Gladstone, and Carlos said this was a continuation of that effort.

"We are really making a conscious effort to take games to the regions.

"We want the Capras to be a truly Central Queensland team."

Gladstone Rugby League president Glenn Butcher said it was great to have the Gladstone games confirmed.

He said he was glad there was a focus on other parts of Central Queensland.

"Capras are a CQ team not just a Rockhampton team," Butcher said.

With the games scheduled for Marley Brown Oval he said he was looking forward to seeing a packed stadium for the games which would help Gladstone Rugby League put funds back into local clubs.

Carlos said he hoped being able to watch a Queensland Cup clash first-hand in Biloela would boost player interest for both juniors and seniors for the area.

"Biloela has been struggling a bit," Carlos said.

"We are excited about the opportunity to take these games to the regions."

He said with some great players coming out of the Gladstone region, the Capras and the CQ NRL Bid wanted to ensure they were not letting talented regional players slip through the cracks.

"There is excellent young talent coming through the system.

"We want to try and engage those players."

He said that was why the CQ NRL Bid and CQ Capras joined forces. "We just really want to give young players in the regions a pathway where they can come through the system and go all the way through to the NRL," Carlos said.

CQ Capras will also play a regional game in Blackwater and Clermont and trial games in Moranbah.
