Big hitters welcome on Motor Traders’ Charity Golf Day

GLADSTONE Golf Club is preparing for one of the biggest days on its calendar, as contestants come in swinging for the annual Motor Traders' Charity Golf Day.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Gladstone, the event is celebrating its 36th year.

Originally organised by city motor dealers, it now engages up to 200 keen golfers wanting to support a good cause.

Participants come from Gladstone, Rockhampton, and as far afield as Brisbane - and most usually leave with a prize.

This year, they'll be lining up on Wednesday, May 15, teeing off with a shotgun start at 9.30am.

Entry for the 3 person Ambrose event is $25 per player.

Cost includes sandwiches for breakfast, a burger for lunch and hot snacks after the 18 holes.

Organiser David Lyons said funds raised will go primarily to the Gladstone Hospital Auxiliary and local charities.

"Our Rotary Club is a service club, so any money we make from any of our activities through fundraising is returned in some way to the community," he said. Around $225,000 has been donated since the event began.

Mr Lyons said sponsorship comes from many local businesses - whether or not they're fans of golf.

"They just want to be part of a successful event which benefits the charitable community of Gladstone and district," he said.
