Big double-hulled barge gets to work in Gladstone harbour

A DOUBLE-hulled bunker barge has begun operating in Gladstone Harbour.

International Bunker Supplies has brought the barge, named Larcom, to the region.

At 3800 tonne dead weight, the barge is nearly twice the size of its predecessor.

Since arriving in Gladstone, crew members have been undertaking familiarisation and completion of final operational and regulatory requirements before to entering service.

The new barge replaces the Larcom 1, which has International Bunker Supplies and the Port of Gladstone since 1991.

The additional capacity of the new barge will help meet the needs of the increasing port activity and to efficiently service the bunker-only requirements of vessels at anchorage.

Larcom has 3000 tonnes capacity for HFO and 400 tonnes capacity for marine diesel. It can also carry 300 tonnes of fresh water.
