Basketball match to be an annual affair and raise funds
BASKETBALL: Some of the best current and ex-Queensland Basketball League players will devote their talents and memories to a late and dear mate.
The Blair Smith Memorial Charity Event will be held on Saturday at Kev Broome Stadium with Gladstone to take on Cap Coast.
Former Gladstone Port City Power Capricorn Surge coach Blair Smith tragically passed away last year, but Chris Tucker said the poplar mentor's legacy lives on.
"Blair was a big part of the program and he made some big changes as the club developed," he said.
"He was a real players' coach and made good friendships as well as obviously his (role) modelling and motivation as a player.
"It was extremely great to have him and we're looking forward to put on a display and remember the great man that he was."
Entry will be via gold coin donation and Tucker said a suicide prevention charity has come on board.
"RUOK are on board and they just want some recognition for it and so we're trying to advertise their program that they have and what they do for the world and for Australia with mental health," Tucker said.
"We're just trying to raise some funds to help Blair's kids Brayden and Marleigh and the Smith family."
