Barbarians looking for new fans

IF YOU have a passion for footy, getting together with mates and socialising and keeping fit, all at the same time, the Barbarians Masters Australian rules team is looking for you.

The Barbarians train year-round, Wednesdays at the BITS oval from 6.30pm, and compete in one game a term.

But competing is not their main game.

"We are really a group of people who love footy and enjoy keeping fit in a fun environment and socialising," Rob Walker said.

"It's a really good excuse to get together, kick a footy and share a drink at the end. Playing is a bonus and optional."

Walker said experience with a footy was not necessary, and people from any code were welcome.

"Anyone can come along, young old, kick a footy or never touched one," he said.

"It would be good to see some more people this year. Women are also welcome to join in."

The Barbarians' first match of the year will be on January 28 against the Bundy Brewers.

After this they will prepare for their match in Cairns.

"Our Cairns match is a big one. We will play Cairns, Townsville and Gove and will be playing to defend our win from last year," Walker said.

Those interested are encouraged to attend training on Wednesdays.
