Bad Wake Up call: Ten's breakfast show host axed

CHANNEL 10's new breakfast show Wake Up has been dealt another blow with the departure of co-host Natasha Exelby.

The Ten newsreader has been cut from the show in an effort to get the "balance" right, it was announced this morning.

"I have said repeatedly that chemistry is everything at breakfast and, right now, I don't think the balance is correct. It's up to producers to fix those things," said Ten's director of morning television Adam Boland.

Natarsha Belling and James Mathison will continue to co-host the show, with Nuala Hafner continuing as Wake Up's Melbourne-based newsreader.

"I rate Natasha, Natarsha and James extremely highly individually, otherwise they wouldn't have been there in the first place," Boland said.

"I also saw genuine spark during show rehearsals, but sometimes, that doesn't translate on air. That is nobody's fault, except mine."

The news follows Ten's star-studded 2014 programming launch in Sydney last night, where Belling was in attendance.

The shake-up also follows Boland having to pull back from the show just three days after its debut because of health reasons.

Ten confirmed there will be no changes to its morning show Studio 10.

Today at the Screen Forever conference Ten CEO Hamish McLennan reportedly said the network remained committed to its new morning line-up, with plans to stick by Wake Up and Studio 10 for the next two years.
