Mal Brough welcomes decision on sexual harassment case

MAL BROUGH has welcomed a decision which will allow James Ashby to pursue a sexual harassment case against Peter Slipper. 

Mr Slipper's former staffer James Ashby today won his appeal against a Federal Court decision to throw out his sexual harassment case against the former parliamentary speaker.

Federal Court judge, Justice Steven Rares, had dismissed Mr Ashby's case against Mr Slipper as an abuse of process in December 2012.

Today the full bench of the Federal Court today upheld Mr Ashby's appeal.

The primary judge had concluded Mr Brough was part of conspiracy to damage Mr Slipper. However, the full bench found there had been nothing untoward. 

Mr Brough said he had full confidence in the  judicial system.

"I maintained that the original judgment was without basis and flawed. I am delighted that the Full Bench of the Federal Court has vindicated my position."
