Gladstone trainers eyeing more spoils

GLADSTONE trainers Mick Bannon and Denis Schultz enjoyed a red-letter day on Thursday at a Rockhampton TAB meeting, and the pair will look to follow it up with more success on Gladstone Cup/Newmarket day at Ferguson Park today.

Bannon horse Stipulation ($8.90) and Schultz's Hardly A Game ($25.90) both saluted at nice odds at Callaghan Park during the week to steal the show for Gladstone's trainers.

Schultz, who has been training in Gladstone for the past 25 years, has Top's Lad engaged in today's Newmarket Open Handicap (1194m).

"He's won two of his past three starts (including a win at Ferguson Park on June 21), and while he didn't win his last start in Rocky, it was a strong Class 5 race," Schultz said yesterday.

His other runners today include first-starter Zahmao (race one) and Iron Bridge (race two).

Bannon, who moved to Gladstone from Victoria earlier this year, has Sequedo in race six.

The opening race on the six-race card is at 1pm.
