A Sharpe leading Nipper

GLADSTONE Valley netballer and surf life saving patroller Maddy Sharpe is relishing the opportunity as captain of the Nippers at the Tannum sands Surf Life Saving Club.

The 14-year-old entered the team-orientated for of surfing and rescuing back in 2008 as a green cap.

"My responsibilities are to set a good example and take the nippers out for a morning run on Sundays," Sharpe said.

"I also have to make sure everyone is having fun and competing."

The teenager will also compete in the four-point carnival on January 31 in Yeppoon as the Tannum Sands contingent of nippers.

The following weekend, Sharpe and her nipper mates will help defend their title they won at the Junior Branch Championships last year.

TSSLSC nippers will try to again lay claim to five awards in that competition which will be held in Bundaberg on February 6 and 7.

"We have been training lots of afternoons at the beach and swim-type training," Sharpe said.
