A fours thriller at Gladstone Bowls

SKIP Wendy Mason's heart was pounding as her opposite number Ellie Edwards did the final bowl of the Gladstone Bowls Club Fours Championships.

The scores were in Mason's team of Sam Lunck, Tina Wallace and Vicki Olsen's favour at 21-18.

"When Ellie had her last bowl, I had to cover my eyes and I didn't want to look," a relieved Mason said.

"If she had drawn, then they would have won."

Edwards and team-mates Pat Hughes, Iris Baxter and Mavis Howard gave it their all, but to fall three short.

"We had led all the way to the last end and they got five points on the last end," Edwards lamented.

"We just needed to win this end to be the winners."

The victorious team are largely made up of new players who have joined the club.
