Starved for a win so far, but is a Cox success on the cards?
THE Cox Plate has always been a little bit of a fizzer for me, a real let down in a list of spring carnivals in which I have found a fair bit of success.
But this year is the opposite. I am starved for a winner, earning only the odd payout here and there to keep my hunger driven and my pocket near-empty.
There is still enough in the bank account to throw a small amount on the race, but I have never picked a Cox Plate winner.
The closest I have come is backing Maldivian numerous times in 2008 then jumping ship to the light-weighted Samantha Miss.
I am not going to make the same mistake again, sticking with Fiorente this year, which unlike Maldivian, has shown some return on my faith.
If Blake Shinn can have Fiorente a bit closer to the front than in the Turnbull when the stallion flashed home for fourth, it may mean I can still have a flutter on the Melbourne Cup, so wish me luck.
And for your sake, back something else!
