Man fined $800 after yelling at police

NOT knowing the right time to shut up cost a Gladstone man a criminal conviction and a $800 fine.

Owen Pickard made a stop in Gladstone Magistrates court on September 9 where he faced one count of public nuisance after an argument with police on August 25.

Around 3.45am police were called to a Quarry St address where they wanted to talk to three men who had evaded their taxi fare.

Pickard was not one of the three - but felt the need to be heard anyway.

Profanities hurled at police resulted in his arrest.

Magistrate Penelope Hay told the defendant "the best thing you can do is be quiet" before being fined $800.
