‘$40K IN A MONTH’: Townsville’s newest OnlyFans stars
Hundreds of Townsville women turned to OnlyFans as a way of making money during last year's global pandemic, though a lot are still cashing in on their saucy snaps.
More than 200,000 Australians joined website OnlyFans at the beginning of 2020, a subscription-based social media platform which enables users to sell racy images and videos.
However there are still plenty of Townsville girls staying ahead of financial ruin by getting creative, and naughty, online.
Steff launched her profile on the platform in November 2019 as a side hustle.
"I saw Mikaela Testa make a lot of money off it so thought I'd try it out," Steff said.
"It's been pretty good, I've made a lot of money.
"All my family know that I do it, obviously you'll get the regular 'I wish you got a better job'. But now they know how much money I make so they don't really care as much."
The 22-year-old said she also had casual employment in case her OnlyFans career came to a premature end.
Though that seems a long way off for the time being.
"I have about 1000 subscribers at the moment and I've had about 5000 overall," she said.
"TikTok is a really big part of promoting myself, it's a great app to get subscribers.
"I made $40,000 in one month because I put a call out for a (on camera) partner. A lot of guys subscribed and messaged me.
"Ever since then I've consistently made $10,000 a month."
Steff said she planned on investing her new-found small fortune in real estate and business.
Because she's had such great success, she's also planted the seed of her mum using the platform for promoting her own business.
"OnlyFans wasn't made for explicit content specifically, people are getting the wrong idea because what the media talk about and what people are doing on there.
"You're going to make money if you find a niche, people like a niche. I've made a lot of money for someone who has no experience.
"It depends on the business, like I don't think a clothing company selling clothes would work.
"But if you're teaching people how to make clothes that probably would."
Maddy launched her OnlyFans account in February this year as another stream of income.
"I didn't have high expectations for the site but had heard so many other girls earning x amount of money on it," Maddy said.
"I had requests to create an OnlyFans for a while and wasn't too fond on the idea at first as your subscribers can hide behind a username.
"Also, I thought it could be a little risky. I wouldn't know who I was talking with. Townsville is a small place."
The 21-year-old said she had been "blown away" with the capacity to earn so much money.
She said in her first three months she grossed more than $12,500.
Maddy, a fulltime dancer at a local club, said she was previously a receptionist and personal assistant at a construction company.
"OnlyFans and dancing pays the bills with plenty left for play money or savings," she said.
Maddy said her "constant battle" with motivation to post was her only struggle.
"I thought it would be easy money. Putting makeup on and taking photos, videos and even raunchy content with my boyfriend is harder than you think. It's mentally draining."
Maddy said she hadn't had any problems with her on-camera job yet, but said it would probably be a different case if she still worked in an office.
"I think it's a good way to reconnect with customers that come through the club.
"However I know subscribers can screenshot or screen record any of your content on your page and share it with whoever they like.
"I haven't come across that situation yet and am unsure how I'd go about it if it does happen."
Charity began creating OnlyFans content in the middle of last year and said it had been "rewarding and fun while satisfying people with content they crave".
"It's been a very big learning experience in regards to demand and how to draw people in," she said.
"My friends have been nothing but supportive of me doing an OnlyFans and are always willing to help out where they can taking photos, with ideas etc."
Other Townsville girls making big money on OnlyFans
Cali is another Townsville girl collecting cash on OnlyFans.
The 23-year-old, who also has a small business making soy candles, said last year her social media following helped kickstart her OnlyFans career.
Cora has also built up a following on OnlyFans.
Khloe has proven to be popular on OnlyFans.
